Service
As a first generation immigrant, I have succeeded in my educational journey by having mentors willing to devote their time, energy, and knowledge in helping me develop as a researcher. Now that I am in a position to offer my own knowledge and experience to others, I am committed to find ways to mentor and train other URMs in research. The following are a set of service projects that demonstrate this commitment.
Intro to R @ CSU Chico
This service project was conducted in collaboration with a dear colleague of mine at California State University, Chico. I prepared and delivered a presentation covering basic concepts in R for undergraduate and masters students in the Psychology department.
SACNAS
In the spring of 2021, I decided to join the Society for Advancing Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science. As a Ph.D. holding member, I have been involved in reviewing student abstracts in the areas of psychology and neuroscience for their annual conference.
NSP
In the summer of 2020, I volunteered to mentor through the Society for Neuroscience, Neuroscience Scholars Program (NSP). The NSP is a two year professional development program that gives graduate and post-doctoral level trainees enhanced opportunities to learn more about careers, research practices, and networking opportunities among others.
El Puente
Beginning in December of 2015, I was involved with the El Puente undergraduate research rellowship rrogram. This program was housed in the University of New Mexico’s El Centro de la Raza.
